Responsible for the planning, executing, directing and evaluating the nursing care given to the surgical patient by assuming the per-operative role. The main focus of the role is the intra-operative period where the nurse may function as the circulator or the scrub person. Will have contact with the patient in each phase of the surgical experience. The responsibility includes the preparation, assembly and organization of the environment, equipment and supplies necessary to perform the surgical intervention.

Primary responsibility is to assists in the treatment and care of patients in the Operating Room. Provides assistance to the Operating Room staff by scrubbing for surgical procedures.
