TO: THOSE INDIVIDUALS ACCOMPANYING SURGICAL PATIENTS TO LSDC
Welcome to Lakeland Surgical and Diagnostic Center. The staff of LSDC strives to make the time you spend with us as pleasant as possible. If you have questions/concerns while at LSDC, please do not hesitate to ask any staff member or volunteer for assistance.
You will be given a pager like those used in restaurants when you arrive. Please keep it with you unless you are leaving the facility grounds. Your family member/friend receiving surgery will be taken to the pre-op area after admission and you will be asked to wait in the lobby (exceptions are made for minors or special needs patients). Once the patient has been fully prepared for surgery, he/she will be given the opportunity to have you sit with him/her until the surgical team is ready.
Should you decide to leave the LSDC grounds, please inform the receptionist or volunteer and turn in your pager. The receptionist or volunteer will ask for your cell phone number in case we should need to contact you prior to your return.
The center offers free coffee in the lobby as well as vending machines for drinks and snacks. There are restaurants nearby if you would like more than is available in our lobby. The hospital next door has a full restaurant on the first floor to the right of the lobby. Directly across the street from the center is Café Roti. A sandwich shop is located at the corner of Parkview and Lakeland Hills Blvd. Additionally there are fast-food and family restaurants on Hwy 98 N toward the Lakeland Square Mall. If you obtain food and return to the center, please eat at the tables provided outside the main entrance in consideration of patients in the lobby who are not allowed to eat.
Once your family member/friend is taken to surgery, you will be asked to return to the lobby. Surgical procedures take from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the procedure. If you become concerned, please feel free to inquire at the reception desk. A staff member or volunteer will escort you to a conference room when the surgery is completed where the surgeon will meet with you. You will then return to the lobby until your family member/friend has recovered sufficiently for you to be taken to the recovery room. This is usually 30-45 minutes. The nurse will review home care instructions with you and the patient prior to discharge.
As a courtesy to others, please step outside the building if you need to use your cell phone.
Again, if you have questions during your time at the center, please do not hesitate to ask.
